Romans 12:1 – “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
It is possible to call yourself a Christian, attend services faithfully, and still live mostly for yourself. Many believers are sincere about loving God but still keep parts of their lives off-limits to Him. They maintain certain habits, ambitions, or relationships they won’t let Him touch. Over time, this partial surrender produces a shallow walk, where God is acknowledged but not obeyed in the day-to-day decisions that truly matter.
Our scripture today shows us the way out: offer your whole self to God as a living sacrifice. This is not an unreasonable demand; it is the only fitting response when you understand the depth of God’s mercy toward you. His grace saved you, His love sustains you, and His Spirit empowers you—now He asks for all of you.
Living for God’s pleasure is a daily discipline. This means consciously putting your body, desires, plans, and choices before the Lord. not once, but every day. It means turning away from what dulls your love for Him, even if others see nothing wrong with it. It means letting the Word shape your values, so you choose what honours Him, both in public and in private. It means serving without seeking applause, giving without expecting return, and obeying even when it costs you comfort.
Today, take a hard look at your life and identify the areas you have kept to yourself. Bring them before God in prayer and yield them to Him. Tell Him you want to live in a way that gives Him joy. Let every part of you be offered up to God, and you will find the joy of truly living for His pleasure.
Start-up Prayer:
Father, in the name of Jesus, I yield my body, my mind, and my desires to You. Help me to daily surrender to you.
