“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”
John 15:4
Many believers today are not fruitful, though they have been chosen and ordained to bear fruits, as the scripture shows us in John 15:16. Many continue in barrenness and wonder why. This may be because they do not know the key to fruitfulness. Jesus shows us this key in our opening text.
The key to fruitfulness for the believer, is not toiling or laboring, it is abiding in Christ. As a branch cannot bear fruit apart from a tree, we also cannot bear apart from Him. To bear fruit, we must remain or abide in Him. But how does one abide in Him?
Firstly, you abide in Him by abiding in His Word (John 15:7). When you abide in the Word, you are fellowshipping with Jesus (John 1:1).
Secondly, you abide with Him by abiding in His love (John 15:10). Abiding in His love, is abiding with the Father (John 17:26).
Lastly, we abide with Him, when we abide in joy (John 15:11). By this, we fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, abiding in Him, is abiding in His Word, His love and joy, which brings us into alignment with the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit; the Trinity, and causes us to be fruitful. What a mystery! As you go about today, ask the LORD to help you abide in Him.
Prophecy 1: Receive grace to consistently abide in Christ in Jesus name.
Prophecy 2: As you step out today, may God surround you with favour as with a shield, in Jesus name.
