Joshua 3:5 – “Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”
In our opening text today, the Israelites were on the brink of entering the Promised Land. Before them stood the Jordan River—swollen, unpassable, and intimidating. Yet Joshua gave no logistical plan or military strategy. His instruction was simple, spiritual, and urgent: “Sanctify yourselves.” Why? Because God was about to act—and the people needed to be ready for it.
This reveals something essential about how God moves among His people. He does not work wonders in an atmosphere of spiritual negligence. He waits until the heart of His people is awakened, cleansed, and aligned. Consecration, then, is not ceremonial. It is preparatory. It clears the soul, sharpens the spirit, and readies us to recognize and carry what God is about to do.
To sanctify yourself is to pause and examine. The Israelites were not told to work harder, pray louder, or give more. They were told to consecrate—to make room inwardly for what God would do outwardly.
If you’ve been asking God for breakthroughs, shifts, or open doors, you must also ask: Have I made space for it? What in my thoughts, habits, or motives will hinder what God wants to release? What needs to be laid down, cleaned out, or surrendered?
The wonder you seek may be waiting on the consecration you’ve postponed. Do not delay God is about to do wonders in your life. Glory to Jesus!
Start-Up Prayer
Lord, I consecrate myself today. Cleanse my heart and prepare me to receive Your wonders. In Jesus’ name.
Nation focus: Ethiopia
Ethiopia is a nation rich in history, culture, and spiritual heritage located in the Horn of Africa. It is known as the birthplace of coffee and one of the oldest Christian nations in the world, with Christianity dating back to the 4th century. Despite this rich heritage, Ethiopia faces ongoing challenges including poverty, ethnic tensions, and struggles with access to education and healthcare. The nation has a diverse population with over 80 ethnic groups, and Christianity remains the predominant religion, though Islam and traditional beliefs also have a significant presence.
